Hotel Aonoha, Yukinoha, Ichika

more

This accommodation facility consists of two newly constructed buildings and one renovated building located on the station front street connecting Gifu Prefecture’s Takayama Station and the Important Traditional Building Preservation District. While efforts to preserve architecture and landscapes are underway within the preservation district, the surrounding areas have a different appearance. We aimed to create architecture that warmly welcomes visitors arriving at the gateway to Hida Takayama and harmonizes with the landscape of the preservation district.
The two newly constructed buildings, “Ao no ha” and “Yuki no ha,” are adjacent to each other and feature a symmetrical design that creates a sense of unity. At the center of each townhouse, we created a light court where natural light streams in through a large skylight, and exposed the wooden columns and beams in the traditional style of Takayama traditional houses. One wall of the light court features a 9-meter-high plastered wall created by Shuhei Hasado, a renowned plasterer from Takayama.
The renovated building “Ichika” is a townhouse that has been part of the station front street’s landscape for over 100 years. The exterior walls feature the same plaster art by Shuhei Hasado as “Ao no ha” and “Yuki no ha”. Through collaboration with Shuhei Hasado, a new architectural landmark for Takayama’s future has been born.
